Microsoft is set to kill off the Nokia name with all future smartphones running the Windows OS set to be called Microsoft Lumia.
The Company
is also set to ditch reference to their smartphones as “Windows”
phones according to a leaked document. The move has been expected for a while
as the struggling division undergoes a major restructure.
Microsoft
confirmed to The Verge that the change is official. In the same leaked documents
that suggested Microsoft would be ditching the Nokia brand it was also hinted
that the ‘Windows Phone’ brand would be dropped.
In the
future all of their smartphones which ironically will still run on a Windows OS
will be referred to as Microsoft Lumia.
Nokia France
will be the first region to change to Microsoft Lumia, which will be reflected
on its Facebook, Twitter and other social media accounts. Australia is set to
follow shortly.
Nokia a
Finish Company is set to concentrate on mapping and network infrastructure.
While
Microsoft confirmed it’s dumping the Nokia brand, it didn’t shed any further
light on the future of Windows Phone.
