The Time Division Long Term Evolution (TD-LTE) fixed wireless network looks set to hit over 55,000 premises in the area, with around 15,000 premises during the initial trial period followed by a further 41,000 next year until 2015.
NBN wireless services are already being rolled out in Toowoomba, while Tamworth resident applications opened this week, and services are due live later this year, reports ITnews.
This marks the extension of NBN tests in Armidale region after two months of extensive trials.
The service will deliver download speeds of 12Mbps, although NBN Co did flag faster internet speeds could be on the cards, announcing fixed wireless rollout to other NSW towns of Taree, Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour.
More than 50 customers are already trialling the fixed wireless network from one of 10 internet service providers in the Armidale region.

12Mbps is around 8 times faster than current ADSL 2+ speeds.
“These communities are the first in Australia to be able to order and connect to a fixed wireless NBN service. This is great news for these regional areas that should experience many benefits from the enhanced service,” NBN Co’s Head of Product Management, Jim Hassell said.
People living in these areas will soon receive a letter which sets out the steps to get connected to high speed NBN services.
“We’re encouraging people to call their preferred internet service provider, select the appropriate package that’s right for them and connect by co-ordinating with their service provider a time for the NBN Co equipment to be installed and activated,” he said.
