A new 2019 version of the Motorola Razr is tipped to be launched in Australia.
At the recent launch of a new range of Motorola smartphones in Australia Danny Adamopoulos, GM Sales APAC for Mature Markets at Motorola was asked outright whether the new Razr was set to be launched here, he did not deny it claiming that we would have to wait.
Now ChannelNews has been told that Australia is one of the Countries that could get the unique flip phone which at one stage was the #1mobile phone in Australia.
Some are speculating that the device could be shown at IFA 2018, Motorola is owned by Lenovo.
The new device is tipped to be over $2K in Australia making it far more expensive than any of the famously affordable Motorola smartphones that have been forced into the bottom end of the smartphone market. It could also be launched as a 5G device.
The original clamshell phones were popular prior to the iPhone with the 2019 version set to combine the latest foldable touchscreen technology with the classic clamshell form factor.
The device will also run the new Android Q is code named ‘Voyager’ and will come with a dual display design and have a small 4:3″ OLED screen.
Like the legendary Motorola Razr V3 which was released in 2004, the device shown off in the Motorola patent is a flip phone that features one external secondary display and another internal primary display.
However, the new Razr’s main display appears to be notched and flexible, stretching almost all the way from top to bottom and folding across the centre (leaving the risk of a noticeable crease right in the middle of the display). There is, of course, no physical keypad. Beneath the screen is a microphone and speaker.
According to XDA-Developers, the Motorola Razr 2019 will be powered by the Snapdragon 710, a mid-range processor that features on the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE − a budget version of the Xiaomi Mi 8. That’ll reportedly be paired with 4GB or 6GB of RAM and be joined by the Adreno 616 GPU and either 64GB or 128GB of internal storage.
The handset is also said to feature a 2730mAh battery (possibly with Motorola’s 27W TurboPower fast charging), a 6.2-inch, 2142 x 876 main display, and an 800 x 600 external display. Its size is not yet known. According to the report, the Motorola Razr 2019 will be available in white, black and gold colour schemes.
