Samsung Electronics who are now the world’s #1 TV vendor last night revealed the world’s thinnest 40-inch FullHD, 100Hz edge lit LED backlight TV panel, that is just 3.9mm thick.
To achieve the new thin size, Samsung claim that they have had to improve the optical elements of the TV so that LED light is efficiently and evenly delivered to the liquid crystal cells. However, the company declined to comment on technical details such as the number and alignment of LEDs and the optical elements.
Panel brightness was listed as 400cd/m2, and the contrast ratio is 5,000:1.
The company also showed two similarly designed ultra-slim LCD panels intended for PC monitors and notebook PC applications. The panel for monitors measures 24 inches and 3.5mm thick, with a 1,920-by-1,200 pixel resolution and 250cd/m2 brightness.
The notebook panel measured 12.1 inches, 1.64mm thick and had a pixel count and brightness level of 1,200-by-800 pixels and 200cd/m2, respectively.
It is not known when thenew products will be released in Australia.
