The lack of USB 3.0 is generally attributed to the fact that Macs don’t support this higher-speed USB standard.
Most other desktop external hard drives need a fan as a cooling solution, which produces noise and tends to fail long before the drive itself.
The new offering is the single volume drive, which is not to be confused with the company’s dual-volume drive of a similar name, which delivers up to 6TB of storage.
