A new leak concerning the highly speculated iPhone 5 has surfaced, drawing attention to a new feature called Assistant.
In 2010 Apple acquired Siri, a company that developed a sophisticated speech-to-text system. As you’d imagine, the technology responds to verbal cues, but it’s taken the now basic ‘Dial Jim’ theory to the next level.
It seems though that since the company’s acquisition, Apple haven’t made much use of it, with little or no news seeping through. Until now.
With Siri, you can ask the device for places to eat verbally and receive prompt recommendations, presumably combining an astute ear for words and an internet connection. The technology will convert speech to text, identify your location and then employ crowd sourcing to identify the best options.
The enthusiast Apple bloggers at 9to5 Mac believe the technology will be incorporated into the highly anticipated iPhone 5, based on a procured screen shot. Looking like a snap from the phone’s settings menu, the new mystery feature is titled ‘Assistant’ and can be toggled on or off.
