Google is introducing a new Google Maps update this week that provides much more information for commuters, as well as letting you control your music from within the app.
On the new Commute Tab you will be able to access live traffic and transit updates tailored to your daily commute – including any accidents or heavy traffic disruptions on your usual route before you depart.
Android-users will also receive real-time notifications about delays and disruptions as they happen, and provides alternative routes to get you back to work faster.
Google Maps will show you exactly where your train or bus is before it’s arrived in real-time, similar to Uber and most food-delivery apps. In certain regions, such as Sydney, it will even show the passenger capacity of upcoming trains and buses. Google plans to add this feature to other cities soon.
Finally, if you listen to Spotify, Apple Music, or Google Play Music while on your commute, you’ll be able to control playback from within Google Maps. Android users will also be able to browse audio content within the Maps app.
The new updates are rolling out this week via the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
