The Australian Labor Party will soon give energy ratings to appliances like plasma screen televisions and computers in order to cut household electricity bills and reduce greenhouse emissions, resulting in a greener household.
The ALP wants to expand its six-star energy-rating system to a ten-star one, enforce small maximum standby power use, and introduce a greenhouse component.
ALP’s Environment Spokesman, Peter Garrett said that the move is a great way to have a greeneer lifestyle and help people cut down on their energy expenses.
Apparently, while some families purchase better television sets for their home, not everyone knows that some of these appliances may consume more electricity than they ever imagined, resulting to high electricity bills.
As of this moment, the energy efficiency label system is only mandatory for appliances like airconditioners, fridges, and washing machines.
