Canon Australia’s Brand Manager – EOS, Chris Macleod said, “We understand that EOS 5D Mark II users desire additional frame rates and we’re preparing a firmware update to allow the camera to shoot at both 24P and 25P. The upgrade to 24P and 25P will broaden the usage scope for this popular camera to include cinema and broadcast applications, respectively.”

Canon expects the firmware update to be available in the first half of 2010 and will release more details as they become available.

In addition, the company has made available a firmware update for the EOS 7D digital SLR camera for download. The new firmware (Version 1.0.9) claims to:

– Improve AF accuracy during Live View shooting
– Correct a phenomenon where, in rare instances, movie images exhibit abnormal colours; and
– Correct a phenomenon where the shutter does not release when used with the built-in or external flash unit.

Canon advises users of cameras with firmware up to Version 1.0.8 to visit the following site and follow the instructions: http://web.canon.jp/imaging/eosd/firm-e/eos7d/firmware.html
