Fitbit has introduced its Fitbit Charge 2 and Fitbit Flex 2 fitness wristbands, decked out with new features and sporting new designs, and has also unveiled updates for its Fitbit Blaze smartwatch and Fitbit Alta fitness wristband. The Charge 2 sports “a new, sleek look and an easy-to-read display that is four times larger than its predecessor”, with its continuous heart rate tracking designed to deliver a picture of overall health.
It provides a snapshot of cardio fitness level, creating a personalised cardio fitness level and score, based on estimated VO2 Max, calculated using user profile, heart rate and exercise data.
Meanwhile, Relax personalised deep-breathing sessions offer “a relaxing mindfulness experience that calms your body and mind”, with beat-to-beat changes in heart rate determining personalised breathing rate.
Users can track specific workouts and get post-exercise summaries, with the Charge 2 linking up with a smartphone’s GPS, providing stats such as running pace and distance. Advanced sensors are designed to

capture all-day activity and sleep, while SmartTrack automatic exercise recognition records everyday activities such as walking, running and elliptical.
The “ultra-slim, swim-proof” Flex 2, meanwhile, measures in at 30 per cent smaller than the Flex, featuring a removable tracker, interchangeable bands in seven colours, and is available with a variety of Fitbit-designed bracelets and pendants.
Water resistant up to 50 metres, it is Fitbit’s first swim-proof wristband, and automatically tracks pool swims, including laps, duration and calories burned, in the Fitbit app.
SmartTrack provides automatic exercise tracking, while an LED display employs colour-coded lights to show progress towards daily goals, keeping users connected with call and text notifications.
Fitbit has also brought new features to the Blaze, including extended smartphone notifications, reminders to move and new clock faces, and has unveiled new designs, including a Special Edition Gold series, for its Blaze and Alta, along with accessory options, having partnered with a number of fashion designers and brands.
