Mobile phone maker HTC is expected to unveil its third Android-based phone soon after cutting a deal with Telstra. Nicknamed Hero the mobile will have a new touch screen interface called Sense.
HTC Chief Executive Peter Chou has said that the new “one key” interface has been under development for two years and is specifically designed to work with a new generation of applications.
“We’ve been trained to function in this application-centric way. But that’s not the way we think,” Mr. Chou told journalists at a New York briefing for the phone. “Today’s phones are not really designed for people,” he added.
HTC claim that Sense has been designed to more naturally mirror the way people think and function. For instance, all communications from a given person, including email, texts, photos, Facebook updates and calls, are listed under that person’s name.
The Wall Street Journal wrote, practically this means that instead of digging into each individual application to retrieve a piece of information, users can just tap a person’s name and the information will show up.
The Hero features a five mega-pixel autofocus camera, GPS navigation, digital compass and gravity sensor.
