HTC’s new Sensation smartphone will launch in Australia today at $792, almost $107 cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy S 2 and Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Arc. The next cheapest Android smartphone with a dual processor is the Motorola’s Atrix smartphone which sells for $840 however it does not have the latest version Android OS.
The HTC Sensation initially will be available through Telstra for $0 on a $79 plan, or for an additional $15 per month on a $59 business plan.
The new HTC Sensation which is getting rave reviews overseas has 1.2GHz dual core processor and an 8 megapixel back-facing camera, full HD (1080p) video recording at 30 frames per second. It also has an aluminium body, HTC’s Sense user interface and Android’s Gingerbread operating system (Android version 2.3).
Last year 24% of Telstra mobile phone sales were the HTC Desire. The Sensation is set to sell alongside the Desire.
Samsung’s strategy to launch premium priced products appears to be working with the Company struggling to keep up demand for the Galaxy S 2, however their decision to launch a premium priced Samsung Galaxy Tab at $995 seems to have backfired with the Company now selling the 7″ Android Tablet for sub $400.
