Apple’s new iPhone and iPad models are on target to go on sale shortly after being introduced in March, 9to5Mac has reported.Apple’s current plans are to introduce a new 4″ iPhone, the iPhone 5se, and a new
iPad Air at an event on March 15, which will then go on
sale online and in retail stores as early as March 18, according to
sources, 9to5Mac has reported.
9to5Mac reported the sources as
stating that Apple is unlikely to offer pre-orders, with the sources also stating that
the plans could still change.
9to5Mac had previously reported that the iPhone 5se will be an upgrade of the iPhone 5s,
with Apple employees describing the “se” as a “special edition” of the
4″ iPhone screen size and as an “enhanced” version of the iPhone 5s.
Should
the new iPhone be released so shortly after its introduction, it will
see Apple taking a different approach from previous iPhone launches.
Apple’s
latest generation iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus were introduced on
September 9 last year, with pre-orders beginning September 12 ahead of
their September 25 release. The preceding iPhone generation, the iPhone 6
and iPhone 6 Plus, were also available for pre-order before release.
9to5Mac
has reported that the iPhone 5se’s body will be nearly identical to the
iPhone 5s, with the upcoming release said to include A9 and M9
processors, along with an NFC chip for Apple Pay, support for always-on
Siri activation and the iPhone 6’s camera system.
Meanwhile, 9to5Mac has reported that the iPad Air 3 is said to include a Smart Connector and support for Apple-branded accessories, and is expected to include a variant of the A9 processor and an upgraded camera system.
