Phil Newton, the new general manager of Samsung’s IT and commercial display division Spoke exclusively with ChannelNews saying that as a result of his appointment, he had immediately restructured the division employing several new people. He also said that Joe Serra, the former national sales manager of Samsung’s commercial display division had chosen to leave the company after being offered another job in Samsung outside of the IT division. “It was his choice to leave” said Newton, who joined Samsung from competitor BenQ.
Newton said that during the next few weeks the Korean company would be initiating a major roll out of new Samsung products in an effort to reverse past failures in the notebook and printer markets.
“We have had a massive response from the retail channel and most of the mass retailers will be stocking our new range of Samsung IT products. In the notebook market we are being selective as to which retailers sell the product until we see how well they perform. Among the new range will be three new Netbooks including two 10″ Netbooks and one 12 inch” said Newton.
Newton said set that Samsung was also set to launch new mono laser printers and new colour multi function printers.
“Currently we are number one in the multi function market and our new range will allow us to expand not only our range but market share. We are also launching new 82″ 70″ and 50″ commercial plasma display panels along with touch software and content engines. We see a lot of opportunity in this market as have a brilliant range of products to call on to meet the needs of the market”.
