Nintendo, who have snared over 60% of the Australian console market with their Wii console and their quirky remote control, is set to launch a brand new Wii MotionPlus controller which the Company says will deliver “better and more precise” control. The new device will be released early in June 2009.
The new device which will give true 1:1 control of games is expected to sell for around $49.00 and is designed for players who want more precision out of their controls.
However the new peripheral will only work with games that are coded to support it say Nintendo.
According to people who have seen and tried the new controller the device changes how the controller feels in your hand. It also adds a significant amount of weight and length to the Wiimote, making the whole thing feel almost like the hilt of a sword.
Ars Technica wrote “It’s somewhat odd, seeing a virtual hand on the screen move exactly with yours as you hold a virtual Frisbee, although the MotionPlus may make gamers excited about the possibility of the Nintendo Wii once again. A sword-fighting game that will come in Wii Sports Resort will allow you an unlimited number of attacks, you simply wield the controller like you would a real sword, although not having the weight of the blade or much tactile feedback when you hit an object is somewhat disconcerting”.
