Nokia Australia is planning to launch a new N800 Windows Phone prior to Xmas according to Telstra sources. The device will initially be launched at Nokia World, as the Finish Company desperately tries to gain sales traction, after consumers in the millions dumped Nokia brand phones for new Android and Apple smartphones.
Both HTC and Samsung have said that they will have Windows Mango based phones that will compete head on with “whatever Nokia decides to launch” a Samsung Australia official said.
Promotional materials for a device called the Nokia 800 were revealed earlier this week. One ad which shows a screen shot of the device says: “Today the sun will rise and set, the rest is up for grab”. A second promo reveals the device by name and touts an 8-megapixel camera.
It reads: “Just click the button on the side of the new Nokia 800 and an 8-mp photo can be easily tagged, shared with your groups or social networks and stored in an album in seconds.”
The handset could be the Nokia Windows Phone previously known as the Sea Ray say overseas sources.
A Telstra source said that Nokia has shown them a model of the Windows based handset. “It is very smart and visually appealing” they said. “The issue will be whether consumers are prepared to invest in a Windows based model. They haven’t in the past” said the Telstra executive.
