Two weeks after Microsoft held a press conference to announce their new Nokia line-up featuring the Nokia Lumia 930 the new smartphone which runs the Windows 8.1 OS has failed to appear in Telstra stores.
At the PR event SmartHouse was approached by Telstra staff who told us that the device would be on sale the following week at the discounted price of $672 which was $57 cheaper than the recommended Nokia price of $729.
Now Telstra is saying that the device will not go on sale until August.
The Telco is blaming additional testing and upgrades for the delay but they have not said what additional testing or what hardware upgrades the Nokia 930 is undertaking prior to being put on sale.
The earliest date now for the device to go on sale in Telstra shops is the 5th of August.
Telstra are claiming that they only became aware of the hardware update after Nokia had officially launched the 930 and 635 in Australia.
Andrew Volard, Telstra Director of Device Management and Operations said in a recent blog that due to the hardware update by Microsoft the carrier had been forced to re-test the device to check it meets their performance benchmarks before the device went on sale.
Volard said that the hardware update made to the production version of Lumia 930 handsets supplied to Telstra wasn’t communicated to Telstra, and when it found out, the carrier insisted on new bench testing.
