Optus has outlined a new mobile network plan designed to deliver HD Video, gaming and other services in Australia over an LTE network at speeds up to 50Mb a second. Trials of the new network are currently underway in Gordon and Pymble in NSW.
The service that will initially be delivered over dongles attached to PCs is expected to be highly popular in Australia when rolled out claims Optus, who is currently lobbying the Federal Government for additional spectrum.
Optus claims that gaming and the downloading of HD Video from sites like YouTube will drive the new service that is being rolled out in partnership wit Nokia Siemens.
The results achieved during the first phase of the Optus trials reveal that the service is superior to 3G. It was also revealed that Australia ranks third behind Korea and Japan in the uptake of 3G services.
