Nielsen has released its third quarter ranking of the top 10 online parent companies/divisions, the top 10 web brands and the latest Australian Internet usage trends.
Google maintains its top position for both the parent and brand rankings with an average monthly unique audience of 12.7 million for the quarter, while Microsoft (including NineMSN) again took out second place in the parent companies ranking with an average monthly unique audience of just over 11.4 million and NineMSN/MSN ranked second for online brands with an average monthly unique audience of around 9.9 million (see charts 1 and 2).
The biggest movements for the quarter were parent company Yahoo!, which overtook eBay and News Corp Online to the number five online parent company. At brand level, Apple was a new entrant to the top 10 ranking, moving from twelfth position in the previous quarter, to the number 10 position for online brands.
The total active* Australian Internet population for the quarter was 14.6 million, 65 percent of the Australian population.
