Sony Computer Entertainment has unveiled details of a newly designed PlayStation 2 console, which will be launching early next year in Australia.
The console, which is being launched first in Japan later this month, will come in three colours: black, white and silver. A vertical stand for the PS2 is also being offered in the Japanese market.
The new PS2 will have the same functionality, but has had a “complete overhaul” internally, making it lighter, the company says. It will also have a built-in AC adaptor, and will be followed by the launch of new PS2 games.
The new console will retail for the same price as the current model. Sony Computer Entertainment has confirmed that it will be launched “in early 2008” in Australia, but has not provided any further details.
The company says that in its 8th year from launch in 2000, PlayStation 2 is still going strong and “continues to be strongly supported by a wide demographic of users around the world.”
