Navman is refreshing its MY Series of sat-navs come August with a host of new models and safety features like landmark-based navigation.

The upgraded units – the MY80T and MY85XLT – feature landmark guidance to help drivers understand directions by basing them on surrounding sights in their environment. This is coupled with spoken street names for simpler navigation.
“Drivers get greater value for money because even when “free driving” – that is, using the GPS even when drivers know how to get to a destination – it arms them with valuable information such as reminders about active school zones, speed limit alerts to let them know if they are speeding, traffic information and new Premium Driver alerts to warn of changing road conditions coming up,” said Navman Australia’s marketing director, Wendy Hammond.
The new models also try to get around GPS rage when drivers scream at their sat-nav for taking them the long way. The Trip Select function shows a snapshot of multiple routes for one trip that drivers can pick and choose from, whether they want the fastest, easiest, shortest or most fuel-efficient directions.
These jump on top of a host of features that are more-or-less becoming standard on most GPS devices like voice compatibility, audio traffic alerts and points of interest.
In some cases it improves on these features, in one case throwing the basic point of interest function into handy tabs like ‘roadside assist’ for finding a mechanic and their contact details at the push of a button, or ‘parking assist’ for finding nearby parking lots.
The MY80T retails for $299, while the MY85XLT sits slightly higher at $349. Both go on sale this August.
