HMD Global announced that the several Nokia phones released early this year are set to receive the Android P operating system in the near future.
The announcement was made at the launch of the Nokia 8 in the Philippines, stating that the Nokia phones are also going to receive the Android Oreo operating system, which is set to be released before the end of this year.
The Android P operating system is set for release in 2018.
HMD Global is the Finish based company that develops and markets mobile devices for Nokia.
The Nokia 3, 5, 6 and 8 model phones, as well as the newly unveiled Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL models will support both the Android Oreo and Android P systems.
Nokia are also planning to steadily unlock the bootloaders of their devices, encouraging users of the use of open sourcing of the Android operating systems over time.
The Chief Technology Officer at HMD Global, Mikko Jaakkola, confirmed the company’s stance to this on Twitter.
We would unlock one model at the time. What device would you unlock first?
