Samsung has filed a trademark application in Australia and America for a new cloud service specifically for mobile phones and tablets, called “Samsung Portalo”.

LetsGoDigital first noticed the trademark application to the USPTO (United States Patent & Trademark Office) and Australian Trade Mark Office, which is classified as a: “cloud computing software for smartphones and tablets”.

The trademark (below) was submitted on the 28th of September and approved on the 3rd of October:

Thus far, it’s unclear what the new Portalo cloud service is likely to offer.

The current Samsung Cloud service simply backs up photos, data and settings in the cloud.

‘Portalo’ could be derived from the word ‘portal’, which stands as a synonym for a connected hub.

Samsung is set to hold a Developer Conference – themed ‘Connected Thinking’ –  in San Francisco on October 18th and 19th, so its likely the new cloud service will be mentioned there, with further information unveiled.
