Initial production of Apple’s next-generation iPhone models has commenced, with the new models to feature Apple’s Force Touch technology, Bloomberg has reported people with knowledge of the matter as stating. The new iPhones will come in the same 4.7″ and 5.5″ sizes as the current-generation iPhone 6 models and will sport a similar exterior design, Bloomberg reported its sources as stating, with volume manufacturing scheduled to ramp up as soon as next month.
Apple’s Force Touch tech, featured on the Apple Watch, can distinguish between a light tap and a deep press, which Apple states triggers “access to a range of contextually specific controls”.
“With Force Touch, pressing firmly on the screen brings up additional controls in apps like Messages, Music and Calendar,” Apple states of the tech’s functionality in the Apple Watch. “It also lets you select different watch faces, pause or end a workout, search an address in Maps and more.”
Apple’s iPhone 6 and 6 Plus were released in September of last year, with Apple subsequently taking over from Samsung as the number one global smartphone vendor in the 2014 fourth quarter, according to Gartner data.
In recent years, Apple has both announced and subsequently launched its new-release iPhone models in September.
