Nikon has pulled the plug on the Coolpix S4100 compact camera weeks after it was launched in Australia following the recent earthquake in Japan that resulted in the company being unable to access camera components for the device.Retailers in Australia will be affected by the move to pull the camera from sale which was officially launched in March to coincide with the launch of a major new marketing campaign by Nikon.
The Nikon S4100 is the first camera to be officially discontinued due to the effects of the earthquake in Japan.
According to a statement posted to Nikon’s Japan website, the Nikon Coolpix S4100 ‘will be cancelled’ with no indication of whether it will ever be brought back.
The company cited lingering ‘problems with parts procurement’ and stable production, which has prohibited Nikon from making sufficient supply of the camera to meet demand from photographers and dealers.
