Nine has beaten the Yahoo Channel 7 consortium by being the first free to air TV station to deliver content via an IPTV offering.
Channel Nine viewers apparently cannot get enough of McLeod’s Daughters, with the network announcing that the outback soapie would be the first of its dramas to grace a new service called “catch-up TV downloads”. Nine is offering the service through the ninemsn portal, and Daughters’ fans will now be able to download the previous night’s episode.
“This is going to mean so much to the viewers who love the show,” gushed Posie Graeme-Evans, creator and executive producer of McLeod’s Daughters.
The first episode will be free, says Nine, but future downloads will cost
$1.95 each.
A spokesperson for Nine said that the network had not yet decided which other programs would be made available for future catch-up downloads.
