Nintendo’s Wii U will have the capability of supporting 3D games, but the company’s president claims it’s not an area they plan to focus on just yet.
Satoru Iwata, President of Nintendo informed MercuryNews that the Wii U will be compatible with 3D televisions.
“If you are going to connect Wii U with a home TV capable of displaying 3D images, technologically, yes, it is going to be possible, but that’s not the area we are focusing on,” he explained.
“When it comes to 3D, we already have the 3DS, and each owner of the Nintendo 3DS is capable of viewing 3D images.”
When it comes to handheld gaming, Nintendo are pioneers in the industry with their 3Ds which produces 3D images without the need for 3D glasses.
One of the reasons the Wii U will not be focusing on 3D technology from its launch is owed to the availability of 3D televisions in the household, with consumers not hungry enough for the technology noted Iwata.
“However, when it comes to the home console, it depends upon the availability of 3D TV sets at home, which, unfortunately, is not expanding enough.”
With the 3D front covered by the 3Ds, the Wii U will focus on creating a good gaming experience for all games, without focusing on some areas and then neglecting on others.
