Telstra will not sell the Apple iPad. The company has admitted this despite them being the first carrier to announce data plans for the new NextG enabled Apple iPad which goes on sale in Australia on May 28th.
In a statement issued today, Sunday, Telstra said data plans for iPad 3G, will be available without a contract starting at $20.

“Telstra’s pricing for iPad 3G gives customers control and flexibility to access the Internet on-the-go while connected to the Telstra Next G network,” Telstra Mobility Products executive director Ross Fielding said in a statement.
Telstra executives have told ChannelNews in the past, that they “make no real money” selling Apple products when compared to selling HTC, Samsung or Research In Motion products. As a result the Company will not sell iPads in their stores.
JB Hi Fi executives have told ChannelNews that they will sell both the iPad and a Telstra data plan in a combined package.
The iPad can be pre-ordered from Monday through Apple’s online store and it will be available through Apple resellers on May 28.
