Toshiba is close to releasing the first 3D TV in three different sizes that doesn’t require 3D Glasses, sources have confirmed. The new models which take advantage of the Cell processor could be in the market by late 2010.
According to Japan’s Yomiuri Shimbun, Toshiba is planning on launching three different sizes all above 50 inches.
In Australia, Toshiba has been allocated significant marketing budgets to launch a new range of TVs later this year. Among the models is tipped to be at least one of the new 3D TVs that don’t need viewers to wear 3D glasses.
The Toshiba technology emits multiple rays of light from various angles so that viewers sitting at various positions around a TV can see stereoscopic images without glasses. This, claims Toshiba executives, will reduce eye strain for viewers.
Toshiba has not commented on these rumours and is not ready to make an official statement regarding such glasses-free 3D TVs.
