As Sony tries desperately to take on Apple in the online market, senior Sony management have come out swinging against the Internet claiming they “do not see any good coming out of it”.
At a breakfast in the USA last week, Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Michael Lynton told the audience his real thoughts about the Internet. This is the same guy that delivered a 16.4% decline in movie sales and heads the division that lost the James Bond franchise.
“I’m a guy who doesn’t see anything good having come from the Internet…(The Internet) created this notion that anyone can have whatever they want at any given time. It’s as if the stores on Madison Avenue were open 24 hours a day. They feel entitled. They say, ‘Give it to me now,’ and if you don’t give it to them for free, they’ll steal it.”
As one leading writer wrote “with leadership like this, Sony only has itself to blame”.
