Is this a Samsung Killer? Despite earnings woes, HTC is jumping on the superphone bandwagon. Again.

The new mobile, codenamed M7, which sounds like the name of a new BMW or Mercedes, promises to be a monster machine.
Rumour has it, project ‘M7’ will sport a 4.7″ display (slightly smaller than Galaxy S III) but with a Full HD screen, and with the ultimate engine – a quad-core Qualcomm 1.7GHz processor – as well as 13 MP camera with ultrapixel technology (S3 only has 8MP), 4G, Beats Audio by Dr Dre, running Android Jelly Bean OS 4.1 or 4.2.
And looks wise, it is said to have a design akin to HTC 8X Windows smartie.
According to TechRadar, who got a tip off about the secret smartie, “HTC M7 is going to be a flagship smartphone and therefore will carry a flagship (read: expensive) price tag.”
And will cost akin to an iPhone 5 or its Android rival Samsung Galaxy S III.
But in fairness, HTC was an early advocate of the big screen superphone, releasing the One X and XL early last year.
M7 is said to be launched in London and New York, after the phone maker sent out media invitations for an event to take place on February 19. (CEO Peter Chou recently had staff chanting ‘M7’ at an end of year party, so they are clearly excited, too)
HTC is looking to resurge as Samsung and Apple’s “duopoly” eat up the phone market, at the expense of smaller players like HTC, BlackBerry and Motorola.
HTC has undoubtedly released some ultra impressive devices of late – the Windows 8 Phones it recently launched are easy on the eye with some fantastic specs, as was One X+.
There is no word if HTC’s lastest smartie will see the light of day in Australia, and its local office says it is a global launch on the 19th and has no information for Oz yet.
However it is likely that ‘M7’ will reach our shores.
The Taiwanese phone maker is going through major earnings woes at the minute so is placing high bets on Windows 8 Phones and ‘M7’ driving sales and ultimately, saving its bacon.
