Nokia has extended support for the Nokia 3, 5, 6 and 8 for an extra year, honouring its pledge to provide a “pure, secure and up-to-date Android” experience for longer.
In February 2017 the company debuted its “new era of Nokia smartphones”, with a promise to provide two major OS updates and two years of regular security updates.
Today’s news sees Nokia extend this support just short of the two-year mark for some handsets.
The Nokia 3, 5, 6 and 8 will now receive a quarterly security patch update right through to the end of their third year from market launch.
Quarterly releases will include all patches from previous months.
Following two years of monthly updates, the Nokia 3 will be the first to start receiving quarterly updates from September 2019 until September 2020.
Quarterly security update switch dates:
- Nokia 5 – Quarterly patch begins from October 2019 until October 2020
- Nokia 6** – Quarterly patch begins from October 2019 until October 2020
- Nokia 8 – Quarterly patch begins from October 2019 until October 2020
For Nokia 2 users, security patch support will cease in November 2019.
