Australian and Singapore users of Nokia mobile will be able to access Nokia’s new “Comes With Music” online service in Q1 next year, the company announced at its Remix event in Singapore. However they have not said how with both Vodafone and Telstra refusing to sell the new music service.
Comes With Music offers one year of unlimited access to the Nokia Music Store catalogue. The service is bundled with some new Nokia handsets and unlike some other subscription services, customers can keep all the music that they have downloaded at the end of the year, the mobile maker says.
But you guessed it there’s a snag. The music can be downloaded to only one Comes With Music phone and one associated PC. Change your PC or phone after two years, and you wave goodbye to the music. It cannot be burned to a disc or transferred to other media.
Nokia also unveiled its first mass-market device with a touchscreen, the 5800 XpressMusic. It comes with a 3.2-megapixel camera, 8GB of memory (enough for 6000 tracks), a pen stylus and even a plectrum for strumming along. It will not be available in Australia till 2009.
