A new job advertised by Apple for an iOS QA Location Engineer, is “further evidence it plans to dramatically expand location services,” it believes.
“You will join a dynamic team responsible for qualifying the latest iOS products, working on exciting new features for iOS location services,” the job ad says.
Apple also specify expertise by the successful candidate in “navigation algorithms” indicating a new navigation service is in the pipeline at Cupertino.
The iPhone maker is planning a massive overhaul of its maps and location services and has engaged in a massive recruiting drive to that end, so far this year.
Just last week, Apple warned developers to stop tracking people and their behaviour via UDID or Unique Device Identifier tool found within iPad and iPhone software, with a new version of the OS expected to become available in coming weeks, following user concerns over privacy.
However, this hasn’t stopped the iOS maker from pursuing dreams of developing a swathe of location based services and recently said it is working on a “crowd-sourced traffic” service for the iPhone, which will released in the coming years.
This will include a ‘Reminders’ application, which will gives location-aware ‘to-do’ lists, which alert users when they are near the selected area.
So for example if shopping lists are compiled, the iPhone can alert a user when passing a grocery store. However, does this also mean being bombarded by ads?
