Higher panel costs, limited market prospects and higher retail pricing will lead to limited shipments of curved LCD TV panels in 2015-2016, according to Digitimes Research, with about 2.8-3 million curved LCD TV panels to be shipped in 2015.Currently, 55″ and 65″ curved LCD TV panels have 30 per cent higher costs than flat TV panels, Digitimes reported, however, overall, they are still cheaper than OLED TV panels, with Digitimes reporting curved OLED TV sales are unlikely to break 800,000 in 2015.
This, however, could change as OLED TV panel costs drop, with Digitimes reporting curved OLED TVs could be the most widely accepted choice of curved TVs as early as 2018.
Digitimes additionally estimates curved LCD TV shipments will exceed quantum dot LCD TV shipments in 2015.
