Olympus’ Micro Four Thirds format camera line has been updated with the launch of a faster and more compact model, the OM-D E-M5 Mark III.
It will start shipping in late November, will come in either black or silver, and will start at $1,999 for the body only, or $2,499 with a 14-150 f/4-5.6 II lens.
The next-gen mirrorless camera now comes with a 20.4MP sensor, the TruePic VIII Quad Core image processor, weather sealing, and for the first time ever in the line, a Dual F.A.S.T. AF 121-point on-chip autofocus system.
It promises to deliver double the speeds of the previous model, with the Mark III now able to shoot at up to 6fps with continuous autofocus and the mechanical shutter, 10fps with the electronic shutter enabled, and 30fps with no autofocus.
As for video, users have the ability to shoot in both UHD and DCI Cinema 4K at 30fps with stabilised, full sensor quality, or 1080p video at 120fps.
According to Olympus, the Mark III’s interchangeable-lens camera system is noted for its compact size, ergonomic control placements, easy handling, and the updated specs, elevate its imaging capability significantly.
In terms of battery life, to fit the smaller body of the Mark III, the original battery has been swapped out for the more compact BLS-50, which is currently being used in the E-M10 range and is CIPA-rated for 310 shots.
