One Billion And Counting: Apple Marks iPhone Sales Milestone

Apple has sold its one billionth iPhone, with CEO Tim Cook revealing that the milestone was reached last week. While the news hasn’t been all good on the smartphone front for Apple of late, with the tech giant’s third quarter report revealing a year-on-year decline in iPhone sales, the achievement puts into context the scale of the iPhone’s success.

Cook announced the milestone at an employee meeting in Cupertino.

“iPhone has become one of the most important, world-changing and successful products in history,” he commented. “It’s become more than a constant companion. iPhone is truly an essential part of our daily life and enables much of what we do throughout the day.

“Last week we passed another major milestone when we sold the billionth iPhone. We never set out to make the most, but we’ve always set out to make the best products that make a difference. Thank you to everyone at Apple for helping change the world every day.”

Apple is now building up to the release of its next-gen iPhone 7, which could arrive, sans headphone jack and decked out with a Force Touch home button, in September.
