Reports claim that renowned Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus is working towards its first TV following the recent appearance of a certification listing for its Bluetooth remote control.
While not officially sold in Australia, the brand has been gaining ground in overseas markets following rave reviews of its smartphone range.
This news comes as competition in the local affordable premium TV market continues to intensify, with JB Hi-Fi set to release the new FFalcon TV range.
OnePlus first announced its TV plans back in September, with CEO Pete Lau confirming the product was in advanced stages of development in April.
According to latest reports, the OnePlus TV will act as a smart hub for other appliances, in addition to standard smart TV features.
Now, a remote control presumably for the OnePlus TV with the RC-001A model name has passed by the Bluetooth SIG agency.
Coupled with the recent tweet from MySmartPrice’s Ishan Agarwal, which said the OnePlus TV is not far away, suggests the imminent release of the product.
Based on rumours, the TV will feature a 4K HDR panel with an on-board AI assistant, an LED display, and the remote will more than likely have a dedicated assistant button that will be used to control the UI.
Reports also reveal that OnePlus TV will receive software updates for five years after its launch to ensure that it remains future-proof.
Though not yet confirmed, the device will supposedly launch in India exclusively on Amazon.
No word yet on release details for other global markets.
