Ruslan Kogan, founder of Kogan Technologies is again trying to drum up publicity for his online store which was recently described by the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission of offering misleading savings, by taking on Samsung, LG and Sony with the release of a new TV range.
Kogan is offering a 46in Elite LED television for $1599 which he claims is cheaper than similar models sold by Harvey Norman. He is also offering a 55″Full HD TV for $2399.

What Kogan has not highlighted is that JB Hi Fi is selling 50″ HD Plasma TV’s for sub $1,000 and a Panasonic 50″ NEO Full HD Plasma for sub $1,500. Other retailers are also selling TV’s cheaper than what Kogan is offering his online TV models for.
Kogan who has been pulled up in the past for misleading advertising is claiming that similar models to his TV models at Harvey Norman, was “nearly double the price of the Kogan 46in [television]”.
In the past Kogan Technologies has been forced to provide the ACCC with court-enforceable undertakings that it will:
not advertise its goods at a discount unless that product has been advertised for sale or sold in reasonable quantities at the higher price for a reasonable amount of time before the representation not make representations regarding the savings which are available to purchasers of Kogan goods unless it clearly states the basis on which those savings are calculated, and implement a trade practices law compliance program.
