Optus has announced an agreement with the Macquarie Radio Network (MRN) to offer radio-on-demand services to the telecommunications provider’s mobile customers.
The announcement makes MRN the first AM radio service to provide audio content to mobiles. The radio network will supply Optus customers with highlights and a simulcast radio stream from Sydney talk radio station 2GB. Conte from 2GB personalities such as Alan Jones, entertainment news, move reviews, jokes and gossip.
For rugby league followers, there will also be a live radio stream of Ray Hadley’s Continuous Call Team, both highlights and game calls.
“This is yet another example of the possibilities of convergence on the mobile phone,” Optus’ Chris Lane said in a statement.
Optus is using OnMobile multimodal technology to offer this audio. Calls to use it are charged at 30 cents per 30 seconds, with additional charges applying for certain content.
