UPDATED: Desperate to compete against Telstra and Vodafone in the iPhone market Optus has today issued a one line press release that claims that Optus will launch the new iPhone 3G S, the fastest most powerful iPhone yet, in Australia on 26th June, 2009.
The release links an Optus information page, which fails to identify the price for the new iPhone in Australia.
When contacted an Optus spokesperson said that the company was not naming the price yet. When asked whether Apple had issued carriers with a price in Australia they said “We are not saying that Apple has not issued us with a price. We are saying that we will not name a price”.
A telecommunication analyst said “They know the price, they simply don’t want to flag it to Telstra and Vodafone.”
Shortly after this story was posted, Vodafone has also issued a statement regarding the new iPhone 3G S. The company said:
“Vodafone will launch iPhone 3G S, the fastest, most powerful iPhone yet, in Australia on 26 June, 2009. Pre-register for information on the iPhone 3G S from Vodafone at www.vodafone.com.au/iphone, from tomorrow (Wednesday, 10 June, 2009).”
