Optus has revealed that it will be streaming all 64 FIFA World Cup matches for free to its 3G mobile customers.The company said that it customers will also have various FIFA World Cup content including archived clips, news, as well as SMS goal alerts.
Optus General Manager, Contents and Portals, Mark Mulder said, “If the prospect of dragging yourself out of bed at 4am for the Socceroos is too much to bear, Optus customers can now pick up their phone and stream every game live from the comfort or their bed or wherever takes their fancy.”
Optus be providing customers with a purpose built 2010 FIFA World Cup mobile site that includes:
- Free live streaming of all 64 matches
- Video on demand content including match highlights, pre and post game clips, near-live highlights
- Latest FIFA World Cup news
- Results, stats, tables and player profiles
- Analysis video from SBS’ The World Game team
- Videos from the fans reporters – The Football Insiders
- SMS alerts (match alert, goal alert & The World Game morning recap)
- 500 FIFA World Cup classic videos
To access the site, customers can text ‘World Cup’ to 966, where a URL link to an optimised mobile site for their specific handset will be provided. iPhone users will receive a link to the Optus FIFA World Cup web-app for iPhone.
Pricing are as follows:
- Live streaming of all 64 matches including concurrent games is FREE
- Text based content will be charged at standard browsing rates
- All video content including the 500 FIFA archive is part of the premium content offering and will be charged at $6.99 per month
