Product Safety Australia (PSA) has extended the recall for the internal batteries in several HP laptop computers, due to an overheating risk, to March 2019.
Affected notebooks include HP ProBooks (64x G2 and G3 series, 65x G2 and G3 series), HP x360, HP ENVY m6, HP Pavilion x360, HP ZBook (17 G3, 17 G4, and Studio G3) Mobile Workstations.
The affected batteries were sold nationally at computer retailers from 1 December 2015 – 30 April 2018.
Recalled batteries have a potential overheating hazard resulting the in the risk of fire or burning.
As the battery packs are mostly encased internally so will need to be identified by visiting the HP website via https://batteryprogram687.ext.hp.com/ and follow the instructions.
The first characters of the unique number of a potentially affected battery are 6GAVV, 6EZPC, 6FDWN, 6EZZE, 6EZZF, 6EVXH, 6ETGL, 6FSRV, 6FWBF, 6FWBH or 6FSNF.
If the customer’s battery is affected, the PSA advises to immediately but the notebooks in “Battery Safe Mode” and cease use of the notebook.
However, PSA does note that once in “Battery Safe Mode” consumers can continue using their HP notebook as long as it is connected to an HP power adaptor.
HP will provide replacement battery services for each affected battery, that has gone through the verification steps, at no cost.
