Research done on Sydney’s North Shore reveals that consumers are set to dump their iPhones for either a new HTC One or the Samsung Galaxy S4.
Overall more than 30% of consumers questioned said that they are looking to invest in a new smartphone.
Among iPhone users this jumped to 49% with many claiming that the iPhone screen was now “too small”.
When shown the new Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One side by side Apple iPhone users by majority chose the HTC One but when they were shown some of the new software features on the S4 68% said that they would buy the Samsung S4 over the HTC One.
Of the consumers who said that they were in the market for a new smartphone 70% said that they would consider a new Samsung Galaxy smartphone, several nominated Sony as a brand that they would consider.
Only 2.5% of consumers said that they would consider a Windows phone.
In the USA Protection-plan company SquareTrade said that 20 percent of all Americans will buy a Samsung S4 smartphone.
The company added that 25 percent of those consumers will break their new phone within the first 12 months of ownership.
The SquareTrade study found that since 2007 consumers have spent $7.2 billion on damaged Android phones. In addition, people are more than 10 times more likely to damage their phone than have it stolen or lose it.
“Samsung continues to gain momentum in the market: 21 percent of Samsung owners previously had iPhones but defected according to our research,” said Ty Shay, chief marketing officer at SquareTrade.
