Netflix the giant US content streaming Company who already has relationships with consumer electronics brands, LG, Panasonic and Samsung is looking to expand into Australia in a move that could well hurt  Apple, Telstra and Fetch TV all Companies that are currently offering content to Australian IPTC consumers.

Three months ago the Company that has close relationships with Hollywood content producers moved into the Canadian market with $8 instant streaming plan, now they are looking for new Internation markets according to CEO Reed Hastings who said yeterday that the move into the Canada had been a “huge success”.

Gleacher & Co. analyst Brian Marshall estimated that Netflix customers view 2.5 million DVDs a day and watch 2.6 million movies and TV shows over the company’s online streaming service. Netflix began shipping DVDs by mail to customers in 1999.

In its most recent quarterly earnings report, Netflix reported $553.2 million in revenue, and CEO Reed Hastings said “by every measure, we are now primarily a streaming company that also offers DVD-by-mail.”

Recently the company launched 99-cent rental of television programming.  At the time, Apple CEO Steve Jobs also unveiled the newest version of the Apple TV. Since then, Apple has sold 1 million of the set-top boxes — which, in addition to iTunes, pull in video content from Google’s YouTube site — and from Netflix.

This year Netflix stock has skyrocketed more than 227 percent.

Yesterday Reed Hastings said that the company will expand its service to other countries in 2011 with Australia being among one of the Countries now being considered for a Netflix service.
“Based on the early success of Netflix.ca we’re going to continue our international expansion next year and we’re going to allocate significant dollars to it,” he told The Canadian Press, without specifying which territories will get the green light.
