A number of the world’s largest record companies have called for application of the Australian Government’s new legislation for blocking piracy Web sites to restrict access to torrent site Kickass Torrents.Legislation was passed last year to allow rights
holders to ask a court for a Web site-blocking injunction to be applied to
sites they claim infringe upon their copyright.
A group of the country’s biggest music companies, along with APRA AMCOS – an
organisation which helps music creators get paid for their work- have
banded together to file an application for torrent site Kickass Torrents to be
blocked.
The group has also applied to block related proxy sites to make it even harder
for Kickass Torrents operators to employ quick workarounds to restore
Australian access.
