Once again the gaming world has decided Australia is not important enough for major announcements, with a stunning lineup of Nintendo games being announced at the company’s US media summit.
Nintendo had told media at its Australia summit in Melbourne that it was not allowed to announce the games before the US heard about them. Instead, Australian media were shown a small array of products later described as “a disappointment”.
Among the announcements not revealed to the Australian press were new Wii titles in the Mario and Metroid franchises: Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: The Other M. These games are due to be released in the US on 23 May and 27 June respectively.
Other games announced were Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (18 May), the third game in The Sands of Time trilogy; Sin and Punishment 2: Star Successor, the sequel to Japan’s N64 2001 third-person shooter (7 June); WarioWare DIY for the DSi, a minigame extravaganza (28 March); and Picross 3D, a puzzle game also for the DSi (3 May).
