Electric carmaker Tesla has again pointed to Australia as a promising market for its planned home and business “energy products” – viz, large wall-mounted batteries that can be used to store energy from solar panels so it be used when the sun isn’t shining, the move is a big boost for Panasonic the maker of the Tesla Powerwalls.
It has said Australia will be one of the first international markets to be targeted when its Powerwall hits the market, possibly later this year.
“We are seeing very strong demand for Tesla Energy products globally, and particularly in Australia, Germany and South Africa,” founder Elon Musk said in a letter to shareholders.
Earlier this year Tesla said in a media statement that the Powerwall would be “a compelling option for Australian residential solar users, due to the unique structure of retail electricity and the feed-in-tariff solar pricing options across the country.”
– Tesla yesterday also reported revenue of US$1.24 billion for its third financial quarter, regarded as a disappointing result by financial gurus. However Tesla also said it had delivered a record 11,603 vehicles in the quarter, slightly more than the 11,580 it had estimated in October.
