Panasonic has taken on the likes of Nikon and Canon, with the launch of its new full-frame mirrorless Lumix S1 & S1R, made for professional photographers.
Claimed to be Panasonic’s first digital single lens mirrorless cameras to feature a 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor, the products will release locally in April.
The new Lumix S1R will retail from A$5,299, or A$6,899 with a 24-105mm F4 MACRO O.I.S. lens.
The comparatively more affordable Lumix S1 will sell for A$3,599, or A$5,199 with a 24-105mm F4 MACRO O.I.S. lens kit.
Panasonic Australia Senior Product Marketing Manager for Imaging, Scott Mellish, affirms the cameras expand Lumix further into the world of pro photography.
The new Lumix S series features Leica Camera’s L-Mount, enabling users to harness interchangable lenses which meet the specifications of Alliance partners – Leicia Camera and Sigma.
Panasonic will also offer three new lenses at launch (below), with ten lenses to be unveiled by 2020.
Pricing: LUMIX S PRO 50mm F1.4 (S-X50) (A$3,599), LUMIX S 24-105mm F4 MACRO O.I.S. (S-R24105) (A$1,899), LUMIX S PRO 70-200mm F4 O.I.S. (S-R70200) ($2,499)
Mr Melish asserts the Lumix S series offers several “first-in-class features” to expand the scope of wedding, events, studio and commercial photographers.
Showcase features include an OLED viewfinder with the world’s highest resolution, Dual I.S 2 stabilisation to 187-MP High Resolution mode and Hybrid Log Gamma, plus multi-format dual memory card slots.
Sensor size is the primary difference between both cameras – the Lumix S1R features a 7.3MP full-frame CMOS sensor, whilst supporting low light shooting up to ISO 25600 (extendable to ISO 51200).
The more affordable Lumix S1 offers a 24.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor, and supports low light shooting up to ISO 51200 (extendable to ISO 204800).
Both cameras are freeze resistant to -10C and are splash and dust resistant.
