Get set for the highest-resolution Micro Four Thirds sensor ever. In glorious news for serious vision visionaries, Panasonic’s video-focused Micro Four Thirds new addition to their GH line, the Lumix GH6, will shoot at up to 10-bit 4:2:0 4K at 120fps, 10-bit 4:2:2 4K at 60fps, and 10-bit 5.7K at 60fps.
Sure, it looks similar to its predecessor, the very cool GH5 Mark II, with the same 3″ articulating screen, but the guts are revamped, and it leaves the cam on your phone in the dust.
There’s a new 25.2MP Micro Four Thirds sensor and a new Venus Engine image processor. Put these together and you can snap pics at 14 frames a second with auto focus locked. This is the highest res in a Four Thirds or Micro Four Thirds cam.
There’s also a new built-in fan so you can film for longer, plus the new five-axis image stabilisation system adds what is claimed to be 7.5 stops of compensation.
On top of all that, GH6 is the first Lumix Micro Four Thirds with the V-Log format and V-Gamut color space. This will preserve more dynamic range for post-production.
But that’s not all. Professional Lumix snappers are now backed up by Lumix Pro Services (LPS), a membership program offering them prioritised support and repairs.
Following similar pro service programs by the likes of Fujifilm, Sony, Nikon and Canon, membership is divided across two tiers – silver and platinum.
Silver is $99 annually, and you must have either an S or G series camera body and two lenses. Platinum is $299 a year and requires you to have a camera body and three lenses.
For this you have access to a dedicated support hotline, loan equipment if the quoted repair time can’t be met, plus free shipping in both directions.
Platinum repair turnaround is guaranteed at two days, though this doesn’t include shipping time. Silver is up to five days.
Equipment evaluation loans are available for a week for Platinum, and three days for Silver. Platinum also includes two free sensor cleans and global membership access.
